A peace pole ( English "Peace Pole" ) is a pile that the pages in different languages, the words "May Peace prevail on Earth" ( German  May peace on earth be wearing).

Peace Poles have their origin in an idea of the Japanese philosopher and peace fighter Masahisa Goi in 1969, which as a means of spreading his peace prayer installed at various locations sticker with the peace prayer or set a pole. The first peace stake was erected in the mid-1970s. The erection of the peace stakes is sponsored by the World Peace Prayer Society , chaired by Goi's adopted daughter Masami Saionji .

There are now more than 250,000 stakes in every country on earth, including in places like the Pyramids of Giza , the Magnetic North Pole of the Earth in Canada, Gorky Park in Moscow and Angkor Wat in Cambodia and Berlin as well as, to promote healing , in places like Sarajevo , Hiroshima, and the Allenby Bridge between Israel and Jordan, and in public and private places in Japan.

Politicians like Jimmy Carter and religious leaders like Pope John Paul II , Mother Teresa and HH the Dalai Lama donated or “dedicated” peace stakes.

The third stake in the GDR was set up in the Thuringian parish of Kapellendorf . On September 1, 1988, the local CFK community group invited to a peace festival on Anti- War Day .

In 2017, a further peace stake was erected on the grounds of the Hof Saelde community in Aschberg in Schleswig-Holstein , which was dedicated to the patron saint of all those in need, Kaspar Hauser .

Switzerland

A peace stake has stood on Monte Verità in Ascona since 2004 ; it is the first peace stake in Ticino and the second in Switzerland. It is labeled in German, English, French, Italian and Romansh .

In 2014, in the municipality of Degersheim in the canton of St. Gallen , ten peace stakes were erected as part of the new “Degersheim Peace Path” between Degersheim and Magdenau as part of the 250th anniversary of the Catholic Church .

There are other peace stakes in Geneva at the World Health Organization ( WHO), the World Trade Organization ( WTO) and the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, as well as on the grounds of schools or seminar houses such as Glarisegg Castle on Lake Constance and in private gardens. The Swiss peace stakes are made by residents of the Tannacker Foundation for the Disabled in Bäriswil (BE).

Austria

On June 22, 2002, the first peace stake was erected as part of a school project in Dornbirn . Constellations soon followed in the Batschuns Education Center and the St. Arbogast Education Center , in parishes in Bregenz and Dornbirn, in schools, at private individuals and in companies. There have been around 30 peace stakes in Vorarlberg since 2020 .

In Austria, the Peace Power Plant Vorarlberg Association (FKW) is mainly involved in the erection of peace stakes. The FKW was involved in the organization of peace stakes in the federal states of Carinthia , Lower Austria and Salzburg .
