Friedrich von Adelung
Friedrich Georg von Adelung ( Russian Фёдор Павлович Аделунг * 25. February 1768 in Szczecin † January 18, jul. / The 30th January 1843 greg. In Saint Petersburg ) was a German-Russian lawyer and linguist .
Life
Friedrich Adelung was born in Stettin as the son of the Prussian chief pharmacist Paulus Adelung. The lexicographer Johann Christoph Adelung was his uncle. Friedrich Adelung attended the Ratslyzeum in Stettin and studied law and philosophy at the University of Leipzig from 1787 to 1790 . Extensive trips followed.
From 1793 he worked in various positions in the Russian Empire in Riga , Mitau and Saint Petersburg . Among other things, he became director of the German Theater in St. Petersburg in 1801 . In 1803 he became the instructor of the Grand Dukes Nikolaus and Michael .
He published on Russian history and linguistic topics through foreign sources. In 1809 he became a corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Sciences . From 1824 until his death he was director of the Oriental Institute . He was in the Russian nobility raised .

Friedrich von Adelung was married to Friederike Wilhelmine Rall (1778–1848), daughter of the Russian major general Friedrich Christian Rall (1737–1797) from Hesse . The marriage resulted in a daughter and four sons.
