Friedrich August von Schenckendorf (* 1710 in Buckow near Züllichau ; † July 21, 1780 in Brandenburg an der Havel ) was a royal Prussian major general, chief of infantry regiment No. 9 and carrier of the Pour le Mérite .

His parents were Karl von Schenckendorf heir to Rissen and Barbara von Schlichting from the house of Bochau and Niesschütz. His brother Balthasar Rudolf became a Prussian lieutenant general.

Life

In 1724 he became a Prussian cadet. When Friedrich II reorganized the Prussian army, Schenckendorf came as a captain in the newly established Füselier Regiment No. 36 (Münchow). In 1756 he became major and in 1759 commander of a grenadier battalion, which consisted of the grenadier companies of Regiment No. 36 (Münchow) and No. 35 ( Prince Heinrich ). In 1758 he became a lieutenant colonel and in 1759 a colonel. In the same year he was promoted to major general and on June 5, 1759 received regiment No. 9 (putt chamber). After the end of the war in 1763 he received his farewell and retired to his Jerchel estate near Magdeburg.

He took part in the campaigns between 1740 and 1762. He received the Pour le Mérite for his bravery near Breslau and Leuthen . In the battle of Liegnitz he was able to occupy and defend the hill near Bienowitz and thus decide the battle for the Prussians. He was particularly successful with his grenadier battalion from 1756 to 1759. During the advance of the Prussian army to Bamberg, he made rich booty, so that he could master his retirement without financial problems. When his house burned down in 1772, he rebuilt it splendidly. In 1776, however, he fell ill with Podagra . He became melancholy and threw himself out of the window in Brandenburg an der Havel on July 21, 1780, and died of the consequences. After his death, his nephew, the Prussian Major General Karl Ludwig von Knobelsdorff, inherited him as his closest relative.
