Balthasar Rudolph von Schenckendorf (* 1699 on Gut Rissen in Neumark , Mark Brandenburg ; † December 27, 1771 in Stargard in Pomerania ) was a Prussian lieutenant general , chief of infantry regiment No. 22 and knight of the Pour le Mérite .

Balthasar Rudolf von Schenckendorff came from the Brandenburg-Prussian nobility family Schenckendorff , also known as Schenkendorf or Schenckendorf, who first appeared in Niederlausitz in 1313 , and to which Max von Schenkendorf , the poet of the wars of freedom against Napoleon , also belonged. His parents were Karl von Schenckendorf, heir to Rissen and Barbara von Schlichting from the house of Bochau and Niesschütz. His brother Friedrich August became a Prussian major general .

Military career

In 1715 Schenckendorf entered the Prussian service in Regiment No. 3 . He rose there and became major on June 21, 1743 , lieutenant colonel on June 15, 1751 and in May 1753 commander in the Füselier regiment "Margrave Heinrich" No. 35 . On September 28, 1754 he was promoted to colonel and in October 1757 he was promoted to major general. In April 1760 Schenckendorf received the infantry regiment "Moritz von Anhalt" No. 22 from the king .

Schenckendorf took part in all campaigns from 1740 onwards. He was wounded in the Battle of Prague on May 6, 1757. But in 1758 he was back in the trenches before the fortress Olomouc and successfully led a major supply albatross to the besiegers. When the Austrians were able to blow up another train at Domstadtl on June 30th, he managed to save some of the wagons.

In 1759 he led the avant-garde in the battle of Kunersdorf and captured 50 cannons. After that, Schenckendorf served all year round in Silesia under Fouque. In the battle of Landeshut he commanded his own corps. There he was captured by Austria with the commanding General Fouque . After the war he stayed in the military and was appointed lieutenant general in 1766. In 1769 he asked for his release, which he received with a pension . He died in Stargard on December 27, 1771.
