Karl Ludwig von Knobelsdorff (born December 19, 1724 in Culm in der Neumark , † April 18, 1786 in Landsberg an der Warthe ) was a Prussian major general and chief of the Dragoon Regiment No. 4 .

Life

origin

His parents were the heir of Tauchel Karl Ludwig von Knobelsdorff († August 12, 1758) and his first wife Eleonore Charlotte, born von Schenkendorff († 1738) from the house of Rissen. His father married Helena Tugendreich von Knobelsdorff, daughter of Hans Joachim von Knobelsdorff from Deutsch Sagar .

Military career

He attended school in Sorau and was sent to the cadet institute in Berlin on July 20, 1740 . At the end of 1741 he became a flag junior in the "von Platen" dragoon regiment . With this regiment he came to Prussia. On November 25, 1743 he became a cornet in the "Louis von Württemberg" dragoon regiment . In 1744 he fought in Bohemia and took part in the siege of Peitz and in 1745 in the battles near Hohenfriedberg (Strigau), Thrush and Kesselsdorf . On September 29, 1750 he became a lieutenant.

During the Seven Years' War he became staff captain on January 12, 1758, and captain on July 21, 1758, and major on June 18, 1762 . Knobelsdorff came to Saxony with the army in 1756 and became adjutant general of major general von Lüderitz in the battle of Lobositz , where the general fell. He then became adjutant to General Christian Siegfried von Krosigk in the battles of Prague and Kolin . The general fell in the battle, von Knobelsdorff's horse was killed and he himself was taken prisoner, where he remained until the end of December. Then he came back to his regiment. Since he was involved in the siege of Schweidnitz during his time , he too came to the siege, where he stayed until the fortress was handed over. He also fought in the battles near Zorndorf , Kay and Kunersdorf and in the battle near Meißen. In the battle of Torgau the regiment stood out so much that all staff officers received the order Pour le Mérite and 500 thalers as gifts. He also fought in the Liegnitz . In 1761 he was in Prince Henry's army. He gave him 100 horses and two free companies to watch the Austrians at Strehlen . On May 12th, 1762 he went with the army at Döbeln over the Freiberg Mulde , the Austrians entrenched there could be expelled to Dippoldiswalde behind Freiberg, many were taken prisoner. At Freiberg he received a grazing shot on the head.

On May 28, 1773 he became a lieutenant colonel . During the War of the Bavarian Succession he was in the army of Prince Heinrich in Saxony. In September 1778 he was commander of the regiment and on August 30, 1780 colonel, and on September 27, 1782 he received the "von Wulffen" dragoon regiment and the character of major general. He died in April 1786 in Landsberg an der Warthe .

possession

In 1775 Knobelsdorff bought Gut Schönow in the Pyritzschen Kreis in Western Pomerania for 33,000 thalers . After his death, his four sons initially owned the estate jointly until it came to his eldest son, Friedrich Ludwig von Knobelsdorff, through inheritance in 1796 .

Knobelsdorff married on March 7, 1765 Ulrike Beate Julia von Schöning (* April 6, 1749 - October 26, 1819) from the Jahnsfelde family, daughter of Ludolf von Schöning and Dorothea Adelheit Amalie von Lüskow. The couple had four sons and six daughters:
