Friedrich Christian Heinrich Schönheit (born September 18, 1789 in Teichröda , Thuringia ; † April 28, 1870 in Singen , Thuringia) was a Protestant clergyman and botanist . His botanical author abbreviation is “ Schönh. ".

Life

Friedrich Christian Heinrich Schönheit was a son of the pastor Johann Georg Schönheit and his wife Johanna Henriette Wohlfahrt. Beauty received his first lessons from his father, who was a pastor in Teichröda at the time, and then attended the grammar school in Rudolstadt until 1808 . From 1808 to 1810 he studied theology at the University of Jena ; mostly with Professors Johann Philipp Gabler , Johann Christian Augusti and Johann Justus Griesbach . Later, however, Schönheit also attended the natural science (mostly botanical) seminars of Professors Friedrich Sigmund Voigt (director of the botanical garden in Jena ) and Christian Gottfried Gruner .

After successfully completing his theology studies, in 1815 Schönheit got a job as a substitute for his father in Teichröda. After his death in 1816 he took over his pastor as pastor. After the end of the year of mourning, he married Wilhelmine Elisabeth Eichhorn. With this he had nine children, two of whom died in childbed .

Ten years later, Schönheit moved to the parish in Singen with the subsidiary villages of Gösselborn , Hengelbach and Paulinzella . From 1833 he headed the Botanical Barter Association for Germany and also worked for a long time as the secretary of the Paulinzella Agricultural Association . Still interested in botany, he was instrumental in founding the Association of Botanists of Thuringia in 1842 . Together with Prof. Johann Jakob Bernhardi , he chaired the constituent meeting in Erfurt on June 8, 1842 .

Beauty wrote some scientific as well as theological and popular scientific writings. His paperback of Flora Thuringia , with which he built on the work of Prof. Wilhelm Daniel Joseph Koch , is considered to be his main work.

He corresponded with scholars throughout the German-speaking region and was a member and honorary member of numerous scientific associations such as the Regensburg Botanical Society , the Natural Research Society of Meiningen and others.

During the March Revolution , Schönheit was elected as a member of the Extraordinary State Parliament of Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt . He played an important role in several committees and influenced important decisions, including the electoral law for the principality.

Pastor Friedrich Schönheit died on April 28, 1870 at the age of over 80. Prof. Bernhard Hergt from Weimar gave his funeral speech .
