history
First mentioned until the 19th century
The first mention of the place dates back to 1334, the name used Techrode is probably of Slavic personal names Techorada derived. With the spelling Teyrede in 1346 an early modification of the place name can be recognized.
Teichröda was in the course of the so-called copper road . In the Teichrödaer Flur, especially in the vicinity of the Salzenberg (the salts), well-preserved ravines can still be seen. On October 2nd, 1746, on the section between Teichröda and Teichel , the Leutenberg driver Balthasar Haff was murdered and robbed.
The local landowners were the monasteries in Paulinzella and Stadtilm as well as aristocratic families in the region. Since the 14th century Teichröda was part of the Schwarzburg castle district and later the office of Rudolstadt, in which 17 farmers paid. In the 16th century there was a peasant complaint court, the so-called castle court. This was held every year on the Monday after Simon and Juda (October 28) under the village linden tree from the Schultheissen, in order to then celebrate with music, dance and games at this location. Teichrödaers were actively involved in the peasant uprising in 1525 and moved to the Stadtilmer camp to emphasize their demands, for example the rejection of baking and cow money. In 1611 91 people died of the plague in Teichröda and Eschdorf. In 1683 eleven craftsmen worked in the village, and there were also three flour mills. Around 1860, 20 craftsmen, 13 tension farmers, 31 Hintersättler, nine day laborers and 39 servants and maids lived here. The presence of the Anspannbauern indicates the earning potential on the Kupferstrasse leading through Teichröda, on whose steep ascent to the Salzenberg the farmers performed ancillary services. In the middle of the 19th century there were 317 inhabitants in Teichröda. In 1859 the Teichröda fire brigade received its own syringe and at the end of the 19th century the first three fire brigade uniforms. Until 1918 the place belonged to the sovereignty of the Principality of Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt .
The end of the war (1945)
At the end of the war in 1945, on April 9, concentration camp prisoners on a death march from Buchenwald concentration camp (presumably French citizens) were driven through the village and attacked by US low-flying aircraft, with 14 prisoners losing their lives. These were hastily buried on site, only to be dug up and reburied a few weeks later by the population of Teichröda at the behest of the US command. A memorial stone on her grave in the center of the town and a memorial at the entrance to the town on the B 85 commemorate these victims. The gravesites of four German soldiers, three of them construction pioneers, can be found in the cemetery. The date of death is not noted. From April 13, 1945, American soldiers were billeted with a few families and on June 3, 1945 Thuringia was handed over to the Soviet troops. The population increased to over 500 citizens due to evacuees and resettlers.
On January 1, 1997, Teichröda, the towns of Remda and Teichel and nine other places formed the new town of Remda-Teichel . On January 1, 2019, Teichröda became a district of Rudolstadt as part of the incorporation of Remda-Teichel.
Culture and sights
Townscape
Because of its characteristic and well-preserved historical town plan as a double dead end village and the street, square and townscape, the Thuringian State Office for Monument Preservation placed the entire "Ortlage" ensemble under monument protection in 1995.

Hopfgarten desert
Hopfgarten is a desert and is located about one kilometer from Teichröda. Document mentions of Hopfgarten exist from the years 1417, 1420 to 1450. From this time onwards, the population gradually moved to Teichröda and the surrounding areas. Around 1663 a lime smelter was still in operation.
