history

Domain Groschwitz

On July 31, 1334, Groschwitz was first documented as a property in a Stadtilm monastery letter. According to the spelling, it is a Slavic foundation, finds from the 13th century confirm this assumption.

In 1512 there were eleven families in the hamlet. It is assumed, however, that they also lived in neighboring villages. Later the estate fell into desolation, but soon after became a sheep farm. In 1612 the estate had a considerable number of farm animals. In 1768 the property was designated as a chamber property . There was one house with eight residents, as well as stables and other buildings. In 1863 the homestead became a princely estate. It was newly built in the style of a train station and farmed over 80 hectares with four horses, two oxen and twelve cows as well as a bull. Until 1918 the place belonged to the sovereignty of the Principality of Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt .

In 1918, the state of Thuringia became the owner after the nobility had been paid off. Shortly afterwards, many areas were used as a parade ground for the Rudolstadt garrison . The farm only had 29 hectares. The corridor of the domain was incorporated into the Lichstedt district in 1926 .

After the Second World War the estate became VEG , then LPG . After the parade ground was given up, VEG had 61.82 hectares at its disposal, from 1953 87.89 hectares. In 1960 around 500 animals were looked after at the location, mainly pigs. Substantial alterations and extensions were made to the buildings of the estate.

After the fall of the Wall , the historic, heavily worn building was threatened with demolition. The preservation and renovation of the historical building fabric was achieved through an ideas competition. The domain is now used for tourism under the auspices of the Königsee agricultural cooperative.
