Milbitz , also called Milbitz bei Teichel to distinguish it from the nearby Milbitz bei Rottenbach , is a district of the town of Rudolstadt in the Saalfeld-Rudolstadt district in Thuringia .

Geography and geology

Milbitz is located on a trough-shaped high plateau near the federal highway 85 from Rudolstadt towards Weimar . This hollow in the terrain is surrounded by wooded limestone mountains on almost all sides . The altitude is 522 m above sea level. The geological origin is shell limestone soil remote from the groundwater. Neighboring towns are south Teichröda , west Heilsberg , north Teichel and Haufeld and east Clöswitz .

history

The village was first mentioned in a document in 1350. The name as a place is closely linked to a noble family, they say.

The place belonged to the owners of Kochberg Castle until 1733 , then it came as an exclave to the Duchy of Saxe-Gotha-Altenburg and was affiliated as an official place of the dominion of Oberkranichfeld . 1825 Milbitz reached by a field exchange of supremacy of the Principality black-Rudolstadt . In 1918 the place came to the Free State of Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt and in 1920 finally to the State of Thuringia.

Due to the favorable climatic and geological location and the high valley location , wine was cultivated until the 18th century . The place has beautiful half-timbered buildings from old farms. The church is a listed building.

On January 1, 1997, Milbitz, the cities of Remda and Teichel and nine other places formed the new city of Remda-Teichel . On January 1, 2019, Milbitz became a district of Rudolstadt as part of the incorporation of Remda-Teichel.
