Geitersdorf is a district of the city of Rudolstadt in the Saalfeld-Rudolstadt district in Thuringia .

On the eastern slope of the up to 600 meters high Muschelkalkbergzug , which separates Schönefeld from the Remda –Rudolstadt valley, Geitersdorf is located in a small basin that is not forested at the exit in an easterly direction. This beautiful location is suitable for those looking for relaxation and has always been used by the residents. The village is easily accessible via a spur road to the nearby federal highway 85 .

history

Geiterdorf was first mentioned in a document in 1350. The place has always been characterized by agriculture and forestry and combined this with guest care.

The church was built in 1637 after the previous church burned down. The place belonged to the owners of Kochberg Castle until 1733 , then it came as an exclave to the Duchy of Saxe-Gotha-Altenburg and was affiliated as an official place of the dominion of Oberkranichfeld . 1825 Geitersdorf reached by a field exchange of supremacy of the Principality black-Rudolstadt . In 1918 the place came to the Free State of Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt and in 1920 finally to the State of Thuringia.

On January 1, 1997, Geitersdorf, the cities of Remda and Teichel and nine other places formed the new city of Remda-Teichel . On January 1, 2019, Geitersdorf became a district of Rudolstadt as part of the incorporation of Remda-Teichel.
