Friedrich Christian II. (Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Augustenburg)
Friedrich Christian von Augustenburg (born September 28, 1765 in Augustenburg , † June 14, 1814 ibid) with full title Friedrich Christian II, Duke of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Augustenburg . During his reign the conflicts between the Augustenburg dukes and the Danish royal family began.
Life
He was the first son of Duke Friedrich Christian I (1721–1794). He married on May 27, 1786 at Christiansborg Princess Louise Auguste of Denmark (* July 7, 1771, † January 13, 1843) and therefore raised claims to the Danish royal throne. In 1786 he became State Councilor and in 1788 patron of the University of Copenhagen .
In 1791, together with Count Ernst Heinrich von Schimmelmann , he offered Friedrich Schiller an annual pension of 1,000 thalers, which was paid to him for three years in order to relieve him of financial worries during his illness.
His brother Christian August von Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Augustenburg was chosen as heir to the throne of Sweden , but died before the coronation. Friedrich Christian II also showed interest in the Swedish crown, but was in fact placed under house arrest in his Augustenburg Castle by a Danish flotilla ; because also the Danish King Friedrich VI. was interested in rule over Sweden. The Swedish crown ultimately went to Charles XIV Johann , who came from France .
