Friedrich Karl Heinrich Maass (also: Friedrich Karl Heinrich Maass ; * August 5, 1768 in Krottorf ; † February 25, 1840 ) was a German educator .

Life

Friedrich Karl Heinrich Maaß was born as the son of the Krottorf preacher Samuel Ehrenreich Maaß (born February 19, 1730 in Zestrow; † unknown) and his wife Charlotte nee. Riemschneider, daughter of the preacher of Großalsleben . He was the second of six children. His older brother Johann Gebhard Maaß was a professor at the philosophy faculty at the University of Halle. Another brother became a secret superior tribunal councilor in Berlin.

At first he was tutored by his father at home and from 1782 he attended the cathedral grammar school in Halberstadt with director Christian Gottfried Struensee (1717–1782). In 1786 he finished high school as Primus Omnium and began studying theology at the University of Halle in the same year . After completing his three-year studies, he received a tutor position in Silesia in 1789 and a few years later a tutor position in his home town.

In 1794 he became the fourth collaborator at the Domgymnasium in Halberstadt and in 1797 received the doctorate from the philosophy faculty of the University of Helmstedt for his dissertation "de cultu Gratiarum". He was later appointed prorector of the Saldern school by the city council of Brandenburg . At Easter 1798 he was called back by the cathedral chapter in Halberstadt to the open inspector position of the school teacher seminar. In 1800 he was appointed rectorate of the cathedral grammar school after the death of Gottlob Nathanael Fischer (1748–1800) , and in 1819 he succeeded the director Johann Karl Christoph Nachtigal (1753–1819) of the cathedral grammar school.

On May 27, 1800 he married Sophie Charlotte (* unknown; March 5, 1802), a daughter of the magistrate Johann Friedrich Poley. Shortly after the death of his wife, his daughter Mathilde also died.

legacy

After the death of Friedrich Karl Heinrich Maaß, the Domgymnasium received its library of 5,000 volumes from the heirs and was set up as the Bibliotheca Maasjana .
