Christian Gottfried Struensee
Christian Gottfried Struensee (born August 14, 1717 in Walchow near Fehrbellin , † August 14, 1782 in Halberstadt ) was a German educator and author.
Life
Christian Gottfried Struensee was born as the son of Putlitz superintendent Michael Struensee (* March 5, 1679 in Mansfeld ; † September 22, 1734 in Putlitz) and his wife Anna Katharina (* June 7, 1691; † unknown), born. Litzmann, born. He had six brothers. These included:
- Joachim Heinrich Struensee (born January 18, 1716 in Malchow , † September 13, 1807 in Greifenberg ), pastor in Kallies ;
- Wilhelm Christian Struensee (* 1720; † unknown), pastor of a Moravian congregation in Dirsdorf in Silesia ;
- Rudolf Struensee (born August 14, 1722 in Putlitz, † November 19, 1801 in Stepenitz ), pastor in Stepenitz.
At first Christian Gottfried Struensee received lessons from private tutors because his father had lost his memory due to an illness; later he went, like his brothers, including vice principal Johann Heinrich Meyer Priel on the Domgymnasium Stephaneum in Halberstadt . Despite the early death of his father and the resulting poverty, could he and his brothers, thanks to the support of her great-uncle Adam Struensee , theology study.
From 1737 he attended the University of Halle and studied there for four years with great privation with a focus on philosophy .
From 1741 to 1747 he worked as a teacher at the pedagogy of the Berge monastery near Magdeburg under the direction of Abbot Johann Adam Steinmetz .
In November 1747 he was appointed vice-principal at the Stephaneum in Halberstadt and initially worked as a teacher at this school for 12 years. The main emphasis of his teaching activity was on languages. After the death of the rector Johann Christoph Wurzler (1685–1758), Christian Gottfried Struensee succeeded him as rector of the Stephanaeum . There he introduced the subject system for the languages, he especially intensified the teaching activities in Greek and German . He increased the number of teachers, subjects and lessons and established an alumnate . Through this school reform, the Stephaneum received a great reputation and the number of students increased again significantly.
In 1768 he became a member of the Halberstadt consistory and in this position he was given responsibility for the rural schools (based on the school concept of Friedrich Eberhard von Rochow ) in the Principality of Halberstadt . From 1777 he was an associate member of the church and school deputation established by the cathedral chapter , where he was also responsible for the seminar established on June 1, 1778 for the preparatory training of rural school teachers; He received support from the canons Ernst Ludwig Christoph von Spiegel and Friedrich Eberhard von Rochow.
He was also active as a writer and translated from the Bible.
His successor at the Stephaneum was Gottlob Nathanael Fischer .
In 1765 Struensee married Katharina Verw. Hessel née Spilke, who brought a son and a daughter into the marriage.
