Gottfried Christian Friedrich Lücke (born July 24, 1791 in Egeln ; † February 14, 1855 in Göttingen ) was a Protestant theologian , university professor and abbot of the Bursfelde monastery with Hann. Münden .

Friedrich Lücke, who was born as the son of a businessman and brewer, completed his school and study days in Magdeburg and Halle (Saale) . From 1813 to 1816 he worked as a repetitionist in Göttingen and received the title of Dr. phil. of the University of Halle.

Lücke completed his habilitation with a thesis on the New Testament canon of Eusebius of Caesarea in Berlin in 1816 .

From 1816 Friedrich Lücke was a full professor at the University of Bonn and obtained his doctorate here in 1819. theol. In 1827 he received a call to the University of Göttingen , where he taught exegesis , dogmatics and ethics . Gerhard Uhlhorn , Martin Birmann and Jonas Breitenstein were among his numerous students .

When he refused appointments to the universities in Kiel , Halle (Saale), Jena and Leipzig , he was appointed consistorial councilor in Hanover in 1839 and in 1843 he was given the post of abbot of the Bursfelde monastery in the Weser Uplands . Although his health was very weak and the premature death of six of his seven children shook him, he held the position of professor and also the office of abbot until shortly before his death.

Lücke is regarded as a somewhat spectacular, but probably very efficient representative of mediation theology .

Other functions

In addition to his academic work, Friedrich Lücke was involved in the negotiations on the union between Lutherans and Reformed people. He was also active in numerous Christian associations, whose interests he strengthened and whose links to the church he operated. He was particularly committed to the Gustav Adolf Association .
