Friedrich Ludwig von der Trenck (born September 1, 1731 in Perkniken (Kr. Wehlau), † November 13, 1797 in Olecko ) was a Prussian major general and most recently chief of Hussar Regiment No. 3 .

Life

origin

His parents were Ludwig von der Trenck (* December 30, 1699; † May 25, 1751) and his wife Katharina Charlotte, born von Arnstedt from the Borken family, daughter of Christoph Ulrich von Arnstedt. His father was a captain and company commander in Garrison Regiment No. 11 , and heir to Perkniken.

Military career

In 1749 Trenck became a private corporal in the "Lehwaldt" infantry regiment , but then joined the "Ruesch" hussar regiment as a Junker . There he became a cornet on December 28, 1752 . During the Seven Years' War he took part in the battles near Groß-Jägersdorf , Kay and Kunersdorf and in the campaign in Pomerania. At that time he was on September 29, 1758 Second Lieutenant , on February 13, 1760 Prime Lieutenant , on January 19, 1762 staff assistant master and on September 23, 1763 Rittmeister and squadron chief . On July 14, 1773, he became a major in Hussar Regiment No. 5 . He fought in the War of the Bavarian Succession and received the order Pour le Mérite on October 31, 1778 . On March 2, 1786 he became lieutenant colonel and on June 2, 1788 colonel . On June 18, 1788, Trenck was given the position of commander of Hussar Regiment No. 5, and from December 29, 1791 he received an annual salary increase of 600 thalers, which was paid until he was appointed head of the regiment. On April 13, 1792, he was appointed chief of Hussar Regiment No. 7 in Schneidemühl . He became major general on January 9, 1793 and fought in Poland in 1794/95 during the Kościuszko Uprising . On June 24, 1796 he became chief of the "Koehler" hussar regiment. In the spring, he suffered a stroke that paralyzed his left foot from which he never recovered. On September 17, 1797, he received his resignation and an annual pension of 1000 thalers, and on October 4, 1797, he received approval to continue wearing the regimental uniform. He died in Oletzko on November 13, 1797 .

In 1768 Trenck married Eleonore Elisabeth von Zedmar (* 1752 - 19 January 1812), a niece of his former boss, Lieutenant General Daniel Friedrich von Lossow . The couple had several children including:
