Friedrich Ludy

Friedrich Ludy (* 1823 in Cologne ; † 1890 or 1896 near Gorizia ) was a German engraver and etcher .

Life

Friedrich August Ludy, son of the engraver William Ludy from Cologne went in 1839 under Friedrich Wilhelm Schadow directed Dusseldorf Art Academy . After taking part in the elementary class, he became a pupil of Joseph von Keller in his so-called copper engraving school in 1840 . From 1850 to 1852 he completed the master class of the academy. After a three-year study visit to Paris , Ludy traveled to Germany and Belgium. He left Düsseldorf , where he last lived in Ratinger Strasse , in 1855 and went to Berlin . Around 1878 he lived there at 30 Melchiorstrasse.

A hip picture of Friedrich Ludy, an active member of the Malkasten Artists' Association , painted by Ludwig Knaus in 1854, is in the Malkasten Association's archive.

In "Explanation of the scientific beetle names from Reitter's Fauna Germanica" by Sigmund Schenkling, the beetle "Lüdyi" is named under "Species, subspecies, varieties, aberrations ", after the engraver Friedrich Ludy, "died 1896 in Salcano (Solkan) near Görz " .

Friedrich Ludy was well versed in the mixed manner, copper as well as steel engravings , which are worked in line engraving and in a mixed manner. He made his engravings mostly in cardboard style after painters of religious history , as well as several portraits. From 1847 to 1850 Ludy made a number of engravings for the "Representations from the Gospels" based on original drawings by Friedrich Overbeck , as well as "Hagar and Ismael", "Solomo's Judgments" and "Rome as Mistress of the World" and "Spring" according to Joseph from Führich . In 1884 he engraved "The Unruly Model" after Ludwig Knaus . For Friedrich Schiller's “Song of the Bell” based on illustrations by Alexander von Liezen-Mayer , Ludy provided a few engravings as well as a few ornaments for his magnificent illustrated edition of Goethe's “Faust”. And after Carl Heinrich Hermann a sheet from the compositions of "German History" (Germany under the Saxon emperors).
