Friedrich Samuel Zickler

Friedrich Samuel Zickler (born November 14, 1721 in Rödigsdorf near Schwabsdorf, † April 23, 1779 in Jena ) was a German Lutheran theologian.

Life

Friedrich Samuel comes from a family of pastors in Thuringia. His father Samuel Gottfried Zickler (born September 12, 1690 in Schwabsdorf; † June 12, 1782 in Bürgel) took up this profession, who at the time of his birth acted as a substitute for the pastor in Schwabsdorf in Rödigsdorf. He later became pastor in Schwabsdorf in 1729, pastor in Sulzbach in 1742 and superintendent in Bürgel in 1745. This Samuel Gottfried Zickler married Regina Elisabeth Marggraf (* May 8, 1698 in Dornburg / Saale; † February 9, 1750 in Bürgel), daughter of the tax collector and mayor of Dornburg Sebald Marggraf and his wife Martha Reichardt, on November 13th in Rödigsdorf who became the mother of Friedrich Samuel. After he was baptized in Rödigsdorf on his birthday, he received his initial training from his father.

This was continued in 1735 at the Gymnasium Weimar under the direction of Rector Johann Christoph Kiesewetter (1666–1744) before he moved to the University of Jena in 1740 , where he studied philology, philosophy and theology. To this end, he attended the lectures of Johann Gottfried Tympe , Johann Peter Reusch , Georg Erhard Hamberger , Joachim Georg Darjes , Karl Gotthelf Müller and Johann Ernst Schubert at the philosophical faculty . In the theological sciences, above all, Johann Georg Walch was a formative teacher. Following the wishes of his parents, on May 28, 1744 he acquired the academic degree of Magister in Philosophy and completed his habilitation on October 10, 1744 at the Jena University. He then worked as a private lecturer, passed his theological exam on July 15, 1745 and was admitted to the philosophical faculty as an adjunct in 1747. In 1758 he became an associate professor of philosophy and on February 6, 1758 he received his doctorate in theology.

In 1760 he moved to the University of Erlangen , where on November 27th he took over the third full professorship in theology and served as dean of the theological faculty. In the following year he returned to Jena, where on October 1st he took over the fourth full professorship in theology. In 1768 he took over the third theological professorship, in 1772 he became second and in 1775 first full professor of theology at the Salana. As such, he also participated in the organizational tasks of the university. He was dean of the theological faculty several times and in the winter semesters 1766, 1768, 1772 and 1776 rector of the alma mater . In 1758 Zickler became an honorary member of the Latin Society in Jena and in 1775 he was appointed church councilor of Saxony-Weimar-Eisenach.

Zickler was married to Auguste Friederike Henriette Hartung (1748–1822). His daughter Amalia Augusta Friederika Zickler (1774-?) Married the lawyer Dr. Gabriel Christian Anton Haupt (born May 27, 1763 in Wismar; † June 1, 1818 ibid.).
