Friedrich Siegmund von Bredow

Friedrich Siegmund von Bredow (born May 5, 1683 Gut Falkenburg near Beeskow ; † June 15, 1759 in Frankfurt an der Oder ) was a Prussian general of the cavalry . He was a knight of the Black Eagle Order and a member of the Order of St. John, he was also the hereditary lord of the estates Sommerfelde , Baudach, Gablenz, Grabkow and Duberow.

Friedrich Siegmund was a member of the Brandenburg noble family von Bredow . His parents were Siegmund Gottfried von Bredow (1649–1721) and Barbara Christina von Pannewitz (* around 1653). General Carl Wilhelm von Bredow (1682–1761) was his brother.

Military career

In 1696 he came to the court of Elector Friedrich III as a page . in Berlin, where he soon rose to become a chamberlain . Under King Friedrich Wilhelm he became a captain in the Derflinger Dragoon Regiment . On January 20, 1714 he was promoted to major and took part in the Pomeranian campaign. On September 13, 1721 he became a colonel and in 1729 took over the Dragoon Regiment No. 6 (Cossell). On September 20, 1731 he became a Knight of the Order of St. John. On July 28, 1733, he received the 7 Cuirassier Regiment and was appointed major general on May 23, 1737. In the First Silesian War he fought in the Battle of Mollwitz . In the battle of Chotusitz he commanded the cavalry of the left wing in the first meeting and was able to distinguish himself there. For this he was raised to lieutenant general by King Friedrich II on the battlefield (patent from May 22, 1742) and awarded the Order of the Black Eagle.

In 1744 he was involved in the siege of Prague. In 1745 he commanded the left wing cavalry in the Battle of Hohenfriedberg . On May 25, 1747 he became the commander of the entire Prussian cavalry.

In 1755 he asked for his release, which was also granted, and he received a salary of 2000 thalers.

He was married twice. His first wife was Anna Elisabeth von Kottwitz since 1715 . After her death in 1738 he married Emerentia Sophia von Beerfelde . She was the daughter of Hofrat Adolf Friedrich von Beerfelde . Both marriages remained childless.
