Friedrich Wilhelm Menckhoff (born June 21, 1789 in Bielefeld , † December 22, 1866 in Bückeburg ) was a Prussian lieutenant general .

His parents were the building commissioner August Friedrich Menckhoff and his wife Wilhelmine, née Eickmeyer.

Military career

Menckhoff attended high school in his hometown and in 1805/06 the Bauakademie in Berlin. In the Fourth Coalition War , he fought for two months with the Krockow Freikorps in 1807, for example in the battle near Dirschau . As a Westphalian subject, he had to leave the Prussian service and came to the Westphalian regiment of the Garde du Corps on February 1, 1809. He fought with the regiment of 1809/10 in Spain . In 1810 he was promoted to sub- lieutenant. In 1812 he joined the 2nd Cuirassier Regiment as a Prime Lieutenant. With the regiment he took part in Napoleon's Russian campaign. He fought near Smolensk and Borodino . After his return he came on March 2, 1813 as adjutant to the cuirassier brigade "von Bastineller". With the dissolution of the kingdom, Menckhoff was adopted in October 1813. He returned to Prussian service and was employed with a patent from June 2, 1814 as a captain and company commander in the 2nd Westphalian Landwehr Regiment. During the Wars of Liberation , he fought in the sieges of Longwy and Venlo .

In 1815 Menckhoff came to the 7th Westphalian Landwehr Infantry Regiment and on April 30, 1816 to the Westphalian Grenadier Landwehr Battalion in Hamm . On February 25, 1822 he was transferred to Düsseldorf as commander of the III. Battalions in the 4th Guard Landwehr Regiment. He was promoted to major on March 30, 1825, and on March 30, 1839, when he was promoted to lieutenant colonel, he was commander of the 15th Infantry Regiment . On September 10, 1840 he was promoted to colonel . He was on 30 March 1846 under the commander in the fortress Silberberg added, and the 15th Infantry Regiment aggregated . On March 27, 1847 he was promoted to major general and in this position Menckhoff received the Order of the Red Eagle, 2nd Class with Oak Leaves, in 1850 . By granting the character of Lieutenant General Menckhoff was put up for disposal on April 12, 1851 with the statutory pension .

He died on December 22, 1866 in Bückeburg, where he was buried on December 25, 1866.

family

Menckhoff married Marie Frederike Schmidts (1800-1882) on February 22, 1821 in Hamm. Her sister Sophie Christina (1797–1867) married Lieutenant General Friedrich von Aschoff . The couple had eight daughters, including:
