Friedrich Wilhelm Ziegler (* 1761 in Braunschweig ; † September 21, 1827 in Pressburg ) was an actor and playwright .

Life

In 1778 he became an actor with Neuheil in Hamm , with whom he went to Vienna . There he caught the attention of Emperor Joseph II , who in 1781 ordered him to be employed at the Burgtheater (from 1794 court theater). He belonged to this stage, with the exception of a day engagement in Mainz , until his retirement (1822), most recently as a theater consultant .

As a stage poet, Ziegler competed with August Iffland and August von Kotzebue and wrote around 50 comedy and theater plays. Special applause found the touching, much given spectacle Parteiwut (1813) and the comedy The House Doctor (1798), lovers and rivals in one person and The Four Temperaments (1823), the equally cleverly laid out as are carried out looking. Its all dramatic works published in Vienna in 1824, 13 volumes .; 2nd edition 1838.
