Friedrich Wilhelm of the Moselle

Friedrich Wilhelm von der Mosel (* 1709 ; † February 6, 1777 in Moers ) was a Prussian major general.

Friedrich Wilhelm received extensive training. He is studying and made a Grand Tour to France. After his return in 1727 he became a Prussian ensign. In 1729 he became a second lieutenant in the Füselierregiment Dossow . On March 11, 1734 he became a captain in the Dohna regiment, on November 14, 1748 he became a major and in April 1756 a lieutenant colonel. As early as 1758 he became a colonel and in 1759 he was appointed major general. He took over the Pannewitz regiment . In the period from 1741 to 1759 he took part in all campaigns and was only wounded in the Battle of Hohenfriedberg in 1745 .

In 1758 he was to accompany a transport of 4,000 wagons with supplies for the siege of Olomouc . He had 11,000 to 12,000 men under his command when the convoy left Neisse for Olomouc. The Austrians had received information about the upcoming reinforcement. On June 28, 1758, there was heavy fighting in Nieder-Gundersdorf with troops under Laudon . Here the Prussians remain victorious and rallied again. But on June 30th the Austrians attacked again at Domstadtl about five kilometers from Olomouc and this time Laudon blew up the convoy. Von Zieten , who was sent for support, came too late. Only 100 to 200 cars arrived in Olomouc, the siege of Olomouc by General Keith had to be abandoned. It had no personal consequences for von der Mosel . In 1759 he was appointed major general.

But on November 20, 1759, he was trapped with the Prussian Fink corps in the battle of Maxen and was taken prisoner by Austria. After the war, like other generals who had capitulated in Maxen, he was sentenced by a court martial. He remained in the Prussian army until January 1768. After his release he reads himself down in Moers, where he died in 1777.

He was the son of General Konrad Heinrich von der Mosel and was married to Johanna Elisabeth von Wobeser (* 1717; † October 25, 1775) daughter of General and Drost zur Moers Joachim Wocislaus von Wobeser (1685-1746). The couple had several children including:
