Friedrich von Graevenitz (General)
Friedrich ("Fritz") Gustav Theodor von Graevenitz (born January 7, 1861 in Hohenasperg ; † February 28, 1922 in Solitude ) was a Württemberg officer , most recently a general of the infantry and military plenipotentiary at the headquarters for the duration of the First World War .
Life
origin
He came from the sex of Graevenitz , the beginning of the 18th century by the brothers Friedrich Wilhelm and Wilhelmina of Grävenitz had reached enormous influence in the Württemberg State, and was the son of both in Ludwigsburg Carl born Alexander Franz Ludwig Albert von Graevenitz (1830 –1903) and Sophie Ernestine, née Höring (1837–1864).
Military career
In 1878 Graevenitz joined the 9th Company of the Grenadier Regiment "Queen Olga" . From 1888 to 1891 he was trained at the War Academy in Berlin. He served in various staffs and joined the Royal Württemberg War Ministry in 1898, during which time he was promoted to captain and later major.
After the death of the previous post holder, General of the Cavalry Gustav von Starkloff , Graevenitz was appointed adjutant general to King Wilhelm II of Württemberg on July 5, 1918 .
His estate is in the Baden-Württemberg State Archive (holdings M 660/095).
family
He had been married since 1888 to Marianne, née Klotz (1867–1940), daughter of the Stuttgart factory owner Johann Karl Klotz (1835–1909), chemist and director of the Siegle paint factory , and Marie Luise Friederike, née Sprösser (1838–1929). She was a daughter of Carl Wilhelm Sprösser (1791–1872), Württemberg major in the honorary invalid corps .
As a result, Friedrich von Graevenitz's wife Marianne was also a niece of Major General Theodor Karl Gottlieb von Sprösser (1836–1907), commander of the infantry regiment "King Wilhelm I" (6th Württembergisches) No. 124 and cousin of Major General Theodor Sproesser ( 1870-1933).
Daughter Marianne von Graevenitz (1889–1983) was married to the officer and politician Ernst von Weizsäcker , from which marriage among others the physicist and philosopher Carl Friedrich von Weizsäcker (1912–2007) and the politician and later German President Richard von Weizsäcker (1920 –2015).
Son Fritz von Graevenitz (1892–1959) was a well-known painter and sculptor . Two other sons Richard von Graevenitz (1890-1918) and Karl von Graevenitz (1895-1918) died as soldiers in the First World War on the Western Front and in the North Sea. Another daughter Elisabeth von Graevenitz (1894–1923) also died young.
