Theodor Sprösser was a son of Carl Wilhelm Sprösser (1791–1872), Wuerttemberg major in the honorary invalid corps , from his marriage with his half-niece Luise Amalie Friederike born Sprösser (1808–1887), the daughter of the elder, on July 29, 1834 in Ludwigsburg Her husband's half-brother , namely Gottlieb Christian Sprösser (1776–1839), was a merchant and iron merchant as well as lieutenant and adjutant of the civil foot company in Ludwigsburg .

The paternal grandfather from Winnenden, Johann Gottlieb Sprösser (1748–1842), merchant and councilor and mayor in charge of Ludwigsburg, was also the maternal great-grandfather.

His first wife (since 1774) Johanna Friederike, née Merklin (1751–1787), was the biological great-grandmother on his mother's side. His second wife (since 1787) was the biological grandmother on his father's side, namely Sophia Rosina Dorothea, née Krauss (1755–1804), who was a daughter of Johann Georg Krauss (1700–1760), ducal Württemberg land commissioner and imperial notary in Ludwigsburg.

The grandfather (or great-grandfather) Johann Gottlieb Sprösser (1748–1842) was a son of Lorenz Sprösser (1706–1785), who was a master bricklayer, court relative and mayor in Winnenden.

Theodor's sister Marie Luise Friederike, née Sprösser (1838–1929), had been married to the Stuttgart manufacturer Johann Karl Klotz (1835–1909), a chemist and director of the Siegle paint factories , since 1861 . For his achievements, King Karl awarded him the Knight's Cross of the Order of Military Merit on December 28, 1870 . Associated with this was the elevation to the personal nobility and he was allowed to name himself after the entry in the nobility register of Sprösser . In addition, on April 23, 1871, he received the Iron Cross, 2nd class.
