Friedrich Wilhelm Leopold von Saint Paul (born April 9, 1768 in Nordenburg , † February 3, 1813 in Crossen an der Oder ) was a Prussian officer and knight of the order Pour le Mérite .

Life

Friedrich von Saint Paul came from a Huguenot family that was ennobled in Prussia in 1721. The family placed the landlords at Steinbeck, Maternhof and Fuchshöfen in the Königsberg district in Prussia. His parents were the chief forester Pierre Jean von Saint Paul († 1787) and his wife Marie Dorothes Preiß .

Friedrich von Saint Paul took up the profession of officer. At first it only advanced slowly, as was the rule in Prussia before the war against Napoleon . His military career began after the beginning of the war in 1806 , when he served in the "Towarzi" regiment, which belonged to the troops of one of the few generals of the Prussian army who fought successfully in this war . He became an adjutant to Lieutenant General Anton Wilhelm von L'Estocq and Major . He took part in the Battle of Preussisch Eylau in 1807 and fought so bravely that King Friedrich Wilhelm III. on February 19, 1807 awarded the order Pour le Mérite. From the reasoning: “... served from Lieutenant General von L'Estocq from January 1st, 1807 until the end of the war, and in the battle of Eilau he also distinguished himself through personal bravery than he did during the entire campaign through his work and skill and diligence in service has shown itself to be beneficial on all occasions ... "

In 1797 he married Friederike von Oppeln-Bronikowski (1779–1854). The couple had several children, all but one of whom died young:

  • Julius Heinrich Friedrich Reinhold (January 12, 1803; † June 7, 1849), Colonel, fallen in favor of Friedrica ⚭ 1832 Luise (Ludla) Julie Ernestine Veronika Leopoldine von Reckow (April 3, 1803; † December 2, 1888)

His descendants were given permission by the Prussian heraldry on January 24, 1889 to use the name Le Tanneux von St. Paul .
