Friedrich von Wachter (born February 7, 1788 in Darmstadt , † August 16, 1876 in Bensheim ) was a Grand Ducal Hessian general of infantry and minister of war .

Life

Wachter joined in 1805 as a free Corporal in the Kurhessische Army and was 1806 Sekonde- and 1809 to first lieutenant promoted. He lost an eye in the battle of Wagram on July 6, 1809. After a long recovery he fought in the Wars of Liberation from 1813 to 1815 and was promoted to captain .

In the following decades of peace he was promoted step by step. In 1849 he took part in the military suppression of the Baden Revolution , in 1853 received the character of Lieutenant General and was appointed city commander of the state capital Darmstadt. On July 16, 1855, on the occasion of his fiftieth service anniversary, he was appointed the second owner of the 4th Infantry Regiment (Prince Karl) and raised to hereditary nobility. In 1862 he became lieutenant general and minister of war . In 1865 he was promoted to General of the Infantry and in 1866 resigned as Minister of War.
