The Friesland is a hydrological survey ship of the Federal Republic of Germany.
history
The ship was built in 1991 under the construction number 37158 at Deutsche Industrie-Werken in Berlin . The keel was laid on February 5, the launch on June 13, 1991. In June the ship was also christened . The completion took place in October of that year.
The ship is used by the Emden Waterways and Shipping Office on the Ems , in the Wadden Sea off the East Frisian coast and in the sea area off the East Frisian Islands for hydrological tasks and for checking the gauge systems on the Ems and in the Wadden Sea. It replaces the 1955-built Emshörn and built in 1961 Randzel .
It is named after the landscape of the same name on the North Sea coast.
Technical data and equipment
The ship is powered by a six - cylinder four - stroke diesel engine from Motorenwerke Mannheim (type: TBD 604 BL 6) with an output of 514 kW . The engine acts on a fixed propeller via a gearbox . The ship reaches a speed of up to 12 knots . In the bow of the ship there is a cross- jet control system designed as a water jet drive with an output of 145 kW.
There are two generators on board for the power supply . These have an apparent power of 240 or 53 kVA .
The ship has an open working deck with a working crane in the aft section. A second crane is located directly behind the deck superstructures in the bow area . There is a laboratory on board for working as a measuring ship.
The hull of the ship is reinforced with ice ( ice class E).
