Fritz Birkmeyer
Fritz Birkmeyer (born October 13, 1848 in Rothenburg ob der Tauber , † December 4, 1897 in Munich ) was a German draftsman , painter , glass painter and illustrator .
Birkmeyer trained as a glass painter with Bernhard Mittermaier in Lauingen and then completed an art degree in Nuremberg . After being seriously wounded in the war in 1870, he was released from the Bavarian army . Birkmeyer recorded his war experiences in his drawings and was also an illustrator of military works and books for young people (e.g. Der Jungherr von Rothenburg ).
Furthermore, Birkmeyer created several designs for church glass windows and the like. a. for the Ulm Minster and the parish church of Wasserburg am Inn and Konstanz on Lake Constance .
Reproductions of Birkmeyer's works have been published in many popular compilations (e.g. Über Land und Meer ).
