Fritz Kranz (politician)

Fritz Kranz (born November 22, 1888 in Landsberg an der Warthe , † December 19, 1971 in Berlin ) was a German politician ( SPD ) and union official .

Fritz Kranz attended elementary school and did an apprenticeship as a precision mechanic . He came to Berlin in 1906 and joined the German Metalworkers' Association (DMV), for which he took on a number of functions in the following years.

Kranz became a foreman at Siemens . In 1915 he was a soldier confiscated . After the First World War , Kranz joined the SPD in 1919 and became a works council at Siemens the following year , and later even chairman of the works council. In the Berlin election in 1925 , Kranz was elected to the Berlin city council and the district assembly in the Spandau district, where he was head of the district assembly from 1929.

After the " seizure of power " by the National Socialists , Kranz was withdrawn from his mandate as city and district councilor on June 22, 1933 in connection with the SPD ban. He was arrested and held in " protective custody " for six months . The exact place of detention is still unknown. In the course of the " Operation Grid " in 1944 he was arrested again at the end of August 1944 and imprisoned in Sachsenhausen concentration camp until September 8, 1944 .

After the end of the Second World War , Kranz participated in the reconstruction at the local political level. He rejoined the SPD. Kranz worked in the district office of Berlin-Spandau , initially in the economic department and later in the personnel and administration department. In October 1946, Kranz was re-elected to the district assembly of Berlin-Spandau, which he chaired until 1950. Since Georg Ramin was elected to the district councilor in April 1951, Kranz moved up to the Berlin House of Representatives . At the same time he took over the management of the district office of Berlin-Spandau until 1955. In 1962, Kranz retired. However, he remained politically active at the district level.

Honors

On the occasion of his 70th birthday in 1958, Kranz was honored as the city ​​elder of Berlin .
