Fritz Scheller (politician)

Fritz Scheller (born February 15, 1909 in Lößnitz , † January 28, 1992 in Chemnitz ) was a German politician ( SED ).

Life

As the son of a factory worker, Scheller became a member of the Communist Youth Association of Germany in 1923 , of which he headed the local branch of his hometown Lößnitz, where he also served as a city councilor for a time. From 1928 the trained locksmith and hosiery worker belonged to the KPD . During the Third Reich he actively participated in the resistance against National Socialism . In March 1933 he was arrested for illegal communist activities and to four years in prison convicted. From 1942 he was in the Second World War in the penal battalion 999 of the Wehrmacht used and reached 1943 in US captivity .

After his return home, Scheller worked again as a member of the KPD, from 1946 he took over functions in the SED and in the state apparatus of the GDR . He initially worked as a party secretary in his hometown of Lößnitz, where he worked as a teacher at the district party school from 1947 to 1948. He was then to 1949 second chairman and economic affairs secretary responsible within the FDGB -Kreisverbandes Aue , when he was appointed county commissioner for state control. From 1950 to 1954 he was the 1st district secretary of the SED in Marienberg . During the second and third electoral periods (1954 to 1958) Scheller belonged to the GDR Land Chamber ; during this time he acted as chairman of the Rochlitz district council .

From 1958 to 1959 Scheller stayed for study purposes at the Political College of the Central Committee of the CPSU in Moscow . After his return to the GDR, he first became deputy mayor of Karl-Marx-Stadt , Kurt Berthel , and after his death in January 1960 took over the office entirely. However, he was replaced by Kurt Müller in September 1961 . From 1961 to 1963 he was deputy chairman of the Karl-Marx-Stadt district council . Subsequently, he was a member of the city leadership of the SED and on site chairman of the commission for the care of old deserving party members.

Scheller was awarded the GDR Medal of Merit in 1959 and the Patriotic Order of Merit in 1984 .
