Fritz Steiner (born November 1, 1896 in Vienna ; † November 23, 1976 there ) was an Austrian - Dutch actor , comedian , dancer and operetta performer .

Life

Fritz Steiner was born as Siegfried "Fritz" Steiner . Very little is known about Steiner's early career. He received training as a dancer in the ballet of the Vienna Volksoper . In 1912 he had an engagement as a dance comedian and dance buffo at the theater of Olomouc (Olomouc / CZ). After the First World War he worked as an operetta comedian in Brno (Brno / CZ), Berlin and Vienna.

In Vienna, especially at the Theater an der Wien , he was involved in several operetta premieres, for example in April 1925 in Der Orlow by Bruno Granichstaedten , in March 1926 in Die Zirkusprinzessin (as Toni Schlumberger), in September 1927 in Die gold ' ne champion , in March 1931 in The farmer General of Oscar Straus and finally in March 1932 in Emmerich Kálmán's operetta The devil rider (as Prince Charles). In July 1931 he was at the Leipzig Operetta Theater as Secretary John Buffy at the side of Rosy Barsony for the premiere cast of the operetta Die Blume von Hawaii .

In the early 1930s Steiner also came to film and received several roles in early talkies. There he played the entire batch range: a dancer , a servant , a composer and an officer boy .

When the National Socialists came to power , the Jew Steiner had to flee Germany and initially found protection in Hungary . It was here that he appeared in front of the camera for the last time in 1935, in the German-language emigrant production " Dschainah, the girl from the dance house " , which was never listed . In 1938 Steiner went into exile in the Netherlands . In the same year 1938 he founded the “Hoofdstad Operetta” in The Hague and also worked as a concert agent in Holland, where he arranged guest performances by renowned artists. In 1938 he also took part in gala performances on the 40th anniversary of Queen Wilhelmina's throne . At the side of once popular Berlin colleagues such as Max Ehrlich and Willy Rosen , he found employment with emigrant cabarets. For example, Steiner was seen in Rosen's revue “Full power ahead!” In June 1939 at the Lutine Palace in Scheveningen . Even in the early days of the German occupation of the Netherlands, Steiner continued his work at the Theater of Celebrities, located in the Lutine Palace, and appeared in both German-language plays (“ Much pleasure ” from August 1940) and in Dutch-language plays (“ 's-Gravenhage laughs! " In September 1940 and" Zo juist give away! " In October 1940).

In 1961 he returned to Vienna and had another engagement (until 1964) at the Raimund Theater in Vienna . He also appeared on television.
