Frohnbügel is a farmstead belonging to Geiselbach in the Spessart in the Aschaffenburg district in Lower Franconia .

geography

The farm is remote and recognizable from a distance from the southeast, on the slopes of the Teufelsgrund , directly on the state border between Hesse (district Neuses ) and Bavaria ( district Geiselbach), on the edge of the Sölzert forest . The Birkenhainer Straße , a trade route that was partly used in Roman times, runs directly along the farm ( coinciding with the Spessartbogen long-distance hiking trail and, until 2019, the Franconian Marienweg ). The Schnellmichbach rises northwest of Frohnbügel . The peaks of Sölzertsberg (351 m) and Seitenberg (328 m) extend to the west, and the Heidköpfe (337 m) to the northeast .

history

In 1269, the estate with the Geiselbach reign was handed over to the Seligenstadt Abbey by the Archbishop of Mainz . The monastery brothers in Seligenstadt then cultivated this piece of land, which in 1710 became the property of the Lords of Boyneburg and was leased to Barthel Stenger from Geiselbach (farmland and sheep farm).

A restaurant has been located inside the courtyard since 1905, at 335  m above sea level. NN lies. Historical postcards from 1914 identify the Frohnbügel as a "health resort"; the first innkeepers Georg Adam and Katharina Heßler advertised with "homemade apple wine" and "milk cure".

Surname

The name Frohnbügel consists of the Middle High German words frô , which means lord and buohel for hill . It means, loosely translated, gentleman's hill , on which the homestead probably stands. The same root of the name is also in the nearby Frohnhofen .

High forest

In front of the inn (on the Bavarian side) is (on the Hessian side) the Hochwald Freigerichter, which was laid out in 1797, with relics of the middle forest .
