environment

The 56 hectare nature reserve Funneaue (COE-040) runs just a few meters to the right and left along the Funne . With its mostly freely meandering river course and its natural edges and different flow velocities it offers an ideal nesting and breeding place for the kingfisher . It is also an important habitat for various other animal species such as the little owl .

Over long stretches of the stream there is dense bank wood, including old polluted willows ; occasionally there is also water ragwort . Also worth mentioning are the marsh marigolds , grape brems and knotweed that occur .

Until 1973 the meadow landscape was still characterized by wetland and wet grassland biotopes, but now half of the grassland has been turned into arable land.
