The Furtbach is a creek about nine kilometers long in the Lake Constance district and in the Sigmaringen district in southern Baden-Württemberg , which flows into the upper Linzer Aach near the village of Großschönach in the municipality of Herdwangen-Schönach after a curve northwards . Its uppermost course is called Furtbächle , its middle ravine is called Furtbachtobel .

geography

course

The Furtbach rises at about 693  m above sea level. NHN on the northern edge of the hamlet of Moos in the municipality of Heiligenberg in the Lake Constance district next to the K 7767 under the name Furtbächle. It initially flows for a very long time approximately north-northwest, after about one kilometer it passes the village of Hattenweiler of the municipality at the eastern exit of the L 200 and then begins to deepen. After a total of less than two kilometers, it becomes the Grenzbach to the small town of Pfullendorf on the right bank, which is part of the Sigmaringen district. A little later, only a short stream runs from the small village of Straß and the Furtbach flows past the Straßmühle . After the mill he soon enters a valley forest, which clears further down, first on the left bank; The Riedlehofbach, the first of four brooks, each around 0.7 km long, runs from the eponymous Hof von Heiligenberg at the edge of the hill.

At the Pfullendorfer Furtmühle , the valley and the brook bend to the left and then run through the Furtbachtobel, which is now very wide and deep and completely filled with forest, in an initially westerly and later increasingly southwesterly direction . In the first half of this section, the Schleichenbach runs from Großstadelhofen on the right edge of the river, at the mouth of which the area of the Herdwangen-Schönach municipality replaces the Pfullendorfer on the right, and shortly afterwards the Adriatshofer from the Adriatsweiler hamlet of the new neighbor. Towards the end of the ravine section, the Furtbach takes the fourth side stream Neuweiler Graben again from the left, here it completely enters the Herdwangen-Schönacher area. About half a kilometer down the valley, the forest and gorge end at the Hubmühle am Lauf and the hamlet of Kleinschönach am Hang. From there, the stream flows in the corridor about south-south-west, soon past a newer settlement of Kleinschönach on the right slope, crosses under the K 8268 from Großschönach to Herdwangen and then flows out at about 550  m above sea level. NHN west of Großschönach at the clay pit of the village from the left into the upper Linzer Aach .

The 9.2 km long Furtbach has an average bed gradient of 15–16 ‰.

Catchment area

The Furtbach has a catchment area of 16.6 km². It is roughly hook-shaped with a shaft over 7.5 km long, running north-north-west, of which the tip, which is only about half as long, bends to the left. The stream begins well below the upper end of the catchment area.

The northeastern watershed is also part of the European main watershed between the Rhine and the Danube, because the Andelsbach , which runs roughly in the opposite direction to the Furtbach, drains over the Ablach into the Danube. Behind the eastern watershed is the Deggenhauser Aach , the left upper course of the Furtbach receiving stream Linzer Aach , into whose right main upper course the Salemer Aach it flows itself. From the southern tip of the catchment area to the mouth of the Furtbach, smaller streams compete with this Salemer Aach beyond the catchment area boundary in the south and southwest, while in the northwest on the other side the Salemer Aach collects its uppermost tributaries.
