Göke Daniel Etto Freerk Frerichs (born October 22, 1923 in Altenburg , Thuringia ; † September 26, 2014 in Bad Nauheim , Hesse ) was a wholesale and foreign trade merchant, member of the German Bundestag and President of the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC).

education and profession

After graduating from high school in 1941, Frerichs was in military service with subsequent imprisonment until 1946. From 1946 to 1951 he studied law, political science and economics at the Philipps University in Marburg , the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main and the Business college in Mannheim , which he finished in 1949 with a degree in economics. In 1951 he received his doctorate as Dr. rer. pole.

Göke Frerichs was married and had five sons.

Political party

Since 1946 he was a member of the Christian Democratic Union of Germany (CDU). 1986 to 1990 he was district chairman of the CDU Hochtaunus. From 1953 to 1969 Frerichs was a city council member with parliamentary group chairman in Bad Godesberg and between 1957 and 1969 a member of the district council in Bonn .

From 1965 to 1975 Frerichs was a member of the German Bundestag. In the 1980s and 1990s he was a district council member in the Hochtaunus .

Since 1990 he has been a member of the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC), Brussels. Frerichs was chairman of the Economic and Monetary Union specialist group for two years. FG for External Relations, the Committee on Budgets, President of the EESC from 2000 to 2002 and vice-president for the following period from 2002 to 2004. He was also a member of the European Convention as an observer of the EESC for the submission of the draft EU constitutional treaty to the European Intergovernmental Conference under the Italian Council Presidency (July 1 to December 31, 2003). Until September 2014, Frerichs was Vice President of the ECO specialist group (Economic and Monetary Union and Economic and Social Cohesion), member of the Commission Consultative des Mutations Industrielles (CCMI / Advisory Commission for Industrial Change) and member the REX section (REX Section / External Relations).

Public offices

From 1951 to 1969 he worked in the Federal Association of German Wholesale and Foreign Trade eV (BGA) Bonn and most recently as General Manager. From 1969 to 1981 he was Chief Financial Officer and Chairman of the Board of Andreae-Noris Zahn AG (formerly ANZAG - now Alliance Healthcare Deutschland AG) in Frankfurt am Main. Between 1970 and 1999 he was a member of the advisory board / chairman of Uni Elektro Handelsgesellschaft ( Würth Group ), Eschborn , and other trading companies, while between 1981 and 1998 he was also chairman of the supervisory board of the Frankfurt Purchasing Office (EKF). From 1981 to 2001 Frerichs was chairman of the Association of Wholesale Foreign Trade, Publishers and Services Hessen eV (AGH) in Frankfurt am Main (until 2014 honorary chairman). At the same time he was Chairman of the Wholesale Committee and Vice President of the Frankfurt am Main Chamber of Commerce .

From 1976 to 2014 he was a member of the executive committee of the Federal Association of Wholesale, Foreign Trade, Services e. V. (BGA)., Bonn / Berlin .
