Gösta von Hennigs , actually Carl Gustaf Albert von Hennigs, (born May 15, 1866 in Rogslösa , Östergötland province in Sweden , † December 26, 1941 in Stockholm ) was a Swedish painter and university professor .

Life

Hennigs was the son of Captain Albert Rudolf Fredrik von Hennigs who died early and his wife Emilie Augusta Lovisa (née Pihlgren). In 1890 he began to work in an architecture office in Stockholm before he enrolled in the painting school of the artists' association in 1891. Gösta von Hennigs , as he called himself by his stage name , came from the Swedish branch of a Pomeranian aristocratic family. He was a student of the Swedish painter Anders Zorn , who influenced him significantly, as well as Richard Bergh and Per Hasselberg . In his early works he addressed street scenes. In 1906 he exhibited his work in Uppsala . From then on, his motifs were taken from the circus ring, racetracks or cabaret. When implementing the movement in the picture, he oriented himself towards Edgar Degas as a role model. His pictures found in the collections of the major museums in Scandinavia and in the collections of the important Swedish private collectors Prince Eugen Napoleon of Sweden , Ernest Thiel and Klas Fåhraeus .

He represented Sweden at the 1932 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles in the Olympic Art Competition .

Gösta von Hennigs was Professor of Art and Director of the Swedish Academy of Arts in Stockholm.

He was married twice:

  • since October 16, 1906 with Alma Wilhelmina "Mimmi" (née Bodecker, February 21, 1875 to January 26, 1933) daughter of the telegraph assistant Axel Bodecker and his wife Carolina (née Bomgren)
  • since August 30, 1933 with Inez (nee Kerfstedt, born October 1, 1881) daughter of the pharmacist Ingemar Kerfstedt and his wife Alma Maria Charlotta (nee Humbla).
