Günter Kootz

Günter Kootz (born February 7, 1929 in Görlitz ) is a German pianist and university professor .

Günter Kootz studied from 1946 with Rudolf Fischer at the University of Music and Theater "Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy" in Leipzig . From 1948 to 1951 he was an aspirant , then he became a lecturer and in 1964 he was appointed professor . Ulrich Urban , Hanns-Martin Schreiber and Frank Peter are among his students .

Günter Kootz has played concerts as a soloist and with well-known orchestras such as the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra, the Leipzig Radio Symphony Orchestra and the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra under conductors such as Hermann Abendroth , Franz Konwitschny , Václav Neumann , Herbert Blomstedt and Kurt Masur . He can be heard in several radio and audio recordings.

His repertoire includes classical and contemporary composers such as Ludwig van Beethoven , Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart , Johannes Brahms , Edvard Grieg , Sergei Prokofjew , Dmitri Shostakovich , Wilhelm Weismann and Rainer Kunad . A special focus of his artistic activity are the compositions of Ludwig van Beethoven, of whom he recorded all the piano trios .

On the occasion of Günter Kootz's 85th birthday, the MDR Klassik series organized a Sunday concert .
