Jürgen Knappe

Jürgen Knappe (born February 13, 1957 in Barmstedt ) is a Lieutenant General of the Air Force and commander in the Multinational Command Operational Command in Ulm .

Military career

Training and first uses

Jürgen Knappe joined the Bundeswehr in 1977 . He completed his basic training in the Air Force Training Regiment in Roth. After completing the officer training course at the Air Force Officer School in Fürstenfeldbruck , he began studying pedagogy at the University of the Federal Armed Forces in Hamburg in 1978 , which he completed in 1981 as a qualified pedagogue. Employment as a platoon leader and as a personnel officer followed. 1986 Knappe took over the 16./Luftwaffenausbildungsregiment 2 in Ulmen as company commander . From 1986 to 1989 he was an orderly officer at the Air Force Inspector in the Federal Ministry of Defense (BMVg) in Bonn . From 1989 to 1991 Knappe took part in the general staff training course at the command academy of the Bundeswehr in Hamburg.

Service as a staff officer

From 1991 to 1993 Knappe served as Head of Department A1 (Human Resources) in the Air Force Training Command in Cologne-Wahn . From 1993 to 1995 he was employed as a consultant (personnel structure planning) in the air force command staff at the BMVg in Bonn. From 1995 to 1997 he worked in the same position as a speaker (organizational principles). In the next function he took over from 1997 to 1999 the air base group of the fighter bomber squadron 33 in Büchel as commander. This was followed by a further assignment as a speaker in the BMVg until 2000, this time in the Human Resources, Social Affairs and Central Affairs department. From 2000 to 2003, Knappe was employed as group leader for structural planning in the Air Force Office in the personnel structure, organization, controlling, expenditure limitation and rationalization department. He then took over the personnel structure, organization, controlling, effort limitation and rationalization department as department head in the Air Force Office in Cologne-Wahn until 2004 . From 2004 to 2009 he was head of department in the Federal Ministry of Defense, until 2006 responsible for the Air Force Organization and Structure in the Air Force's command staff, then for the personnel management of the Supreme and Generals of the Air Force.

Service as a general

From 2009-2011 he was Deputy Commander of the Military District Command II in Mainz . During this time he was deployed abroad from July 2010 to January 2011 (see below). From 2011 to 2012 he was head of the development work group, then head of the development team at the Federal Office for Personnel Management of the Bundeswehr in Cologne. This was followed by a position as Managing General and Head of Department I in the same office. From July 1, 2015 to January 10, 2018, he was the commander of the Territorial Tasks Command of the Bundeswehr in Berlin , handing this position over to Major General Carsten Breuer . Since February 1, 2018, Knappe has succeeded Lieutenant General Richard Roßmanith in command of the Multinational Command Operational Management . This was accompanied by the promotion to lieutenant general.
