Carsten Breuer

Carsten Breuer (* 1. December 1964 in Letmathe , today district Iserlohn ) is Major General of the Army of the Armed Forces and since 10 January 2018 Commander of the Command Territorial Tasks of the Bundeswehr in Berlin.

Military career

Training and first uses

In 1984, after graduating from high school, Breuer joined the Bundeswehr as an officer candidate with the 11th Air Defense Training Regiment in Achim , part of the Army Air Defense Force . In 1985, after completing his officer training at the Army Air Defense School in Rendsburg , he was transferred to the University of the Federal Armed Forces in Hamburg to study pedagogy . He completed his studies in 1988 as a qualified teacher .

From 1989 to 1992 Breuer was stationed in Sigmaringen , initially as an S2 officer (Head of Staff Department S2 ) in the 10 Air Defense Regiment, and then as an adjutant to the commander of the 10th Panzer Division and a youth officer . He then became chief of the 4th battery of the 6th anti-tank gun training regiment in Lütjenburg . From 1995 to 1997 he was employed as a specialist army air defense trainer at the armored troop school in Munster .

General staff training and service as a staff officer

From 1997 to 1999, Breuer completed the 40th Army General Staff Course at the Command Academy of the Federal Armed Forces in Hamburg. After this course he was employed as a staff officer at the Deputy Inspector General of the Bundeswehr in the Federal Ministry of Defense until 2001 . From 2001 to 2002 Breuer took part in the US Command and General Staff Officer Course at the Command and General Staff College in Fort Leavenworth , Kansas / United States . Back in Germany he became Chief of Staff of the 41st Panzer Grenadier Brigade in Torgelow . During this time he was the commander of the German units of the Multinational Brigade South-East of the 8th KFOR contingent in Prizren , Kosovo .

In 2004 he took over the anti-tank gun battalion 12 in Hardheim as commander and led it until his transfer to the Federal Ministry of Defense (BMVg) in 2006. There he became adjutant of the Army Inspector , Lieutenant General Hans-Otto Budde . In 2008 he was transferred to NATO Headquarters in Brussels , where he served as Deputy Supreme Allied Commander Transformation Representative in Europe (SACTREPEUR). In this role he was also head of the SACTREPEUR staff and head of the transformation department. He was then transferred again to the Federal Ministry of Defense in 2010. There he served until the end of 2011 as Head of Division in Management Staff III 2, then from 2012 to 2013 also as Head of Division in the Politics Department (POL I 1) of the Ministry of Defense in Berlin.

General uses

On January 1, 2013, Breuer became the commander of the 37th Panzer Grenadier Brigade in Frankenberg / Saxony . During the time as brigade commander, he was appointed brigadier general . From January to July 2014 he was Director Current Ops , ISAF Joint Command in Kabul , Afghanistan . On December 9, 2014, he handed over command to Colonel Ruprecht Horst von Butler and moved again to the Federal Ministry of Defense. There he initially served as Head of the Politics I Division (Security Policy). On March 23, 2015 he was appointed White Paper Commissioner by Defense Minister Ursula von der Leyen . From July 1, 2016 to the end of 2017, he was Head of the Operations Department in the Army Command in Strausberg . In this post he was also promoted to major general. Since January 10, 2018, Breuer has been the successor of Major General Jürgen Knappe , commander of the Territorial Tasks Command of the Bundeswehr in Berlin.
