Günter Radtke (born May 4, 1927 in Stettin ; † September 23, 1987 in Gera ) was a German police officer and writer .

Life

Günter Radtke initially worked in aircraft construction, then shortly afterwards as a locksmith . In 1948 he switched to the German People's Police in the Soviet occupation zone . His first stop was Apolda , from there he was transferred to the criminal police in Weimar . He graduated from the technical college for criminalistics and studied law at the German Academy for Political Science and Law in Potsdam - Babelsberg ; In 1959 he completed this course as a lawyer . Subsequently, Radtke was involved in various departments in the investigation of various crimes in the Thuringian region, most recently with the rank of major as head of the criminal police department at the People's Police District Office (VPKA) Gera. Shortly before his early retirement due to illness, he also performed the role of chief press officer.

In addition to his professional activity, Günter Radtke was the author of detective novels and stories that were published by the Rudolstädter Greifenverlag , but also occasionally in high editions by the state German military publisher. At the beginning of the 1960s, together with Horst Salomon , he had led a group of writing people's policemen in Gera . His first attempts at writing resulted from the disappointment and sometimes also outrage about read error-prone, because unrealistic, crime stories. Radtke later joined the GDR Writers' Association . He himself co-founded the Gera district association and helped shape it as a board member.

Theme and style

Initially, the writing quality of the new author, who emerged from a lay writing circle ("circle"), was criticized. His style was "naive", it was said, or streaked with inadequacies. On Sunday , the reviewer said that it was not enough to have devised an interesting plot, rather it required “the psychological deepening of the characters, linguistic care and a tight composition”. He therefore criticized the stencil-like nature of the secondary characters, the colloquial language , the frequency of empty phrases along with the lack of visual language and the structure of the otherwise exciting story. With increasing routine, the criminal narratives, based more or less on authentic cases and led to resolution with expertise, only allowed praise. Political crimes such as East-West espionage and classic crimes such as arson , theft and murder , mainly committed by young people, are based on “direct experience” and are conveyed appropriately with humor , irony , self-criticism and sympathy . The causes, backgrounds and relationships are not neglected.
