Günther Feuerstein

Günther Feuerstein (born October 21, 1925 in Vienna ) is an Austrian architect and architectural theorist .

Life

Günther Feuerstein studied architecture at the Technical University of Vienna until 1951 . In 1956 he became a civil engineer . From 1958 to 1962 he worked in the studio of architect Karl Schwanzer and worked, among other things, on the building for the Brussels Expo in 1958 , today used as a museum in Vienna, and on the building of the Economic Development Institute (Wifi) on the Währinger Gürtel in Vienna. In the years 1965–1967 he wrote his dissertation on the subject of “Archetypes of Building” and from 1974–1976 he revised this work.

From 1961 to 1968 he was assistant to Karl Schwanzer at the Institute for Building Science and Design at the Technical University of Vienna . He organized the “club seminar for architecture students”, in which it came to collaboration with the experimental groups Coop Himmelb (l) au , Haus-Rucker-Co and Zünd-Up . Furthermore, he supervised the design for experimental building, which took place each summer with 15 students. Günther Feuerstein became the catalyst for the further development of Viennese architecture in the 1960s through his course. As part of his lectures, he invited guests, including Walter Pichler , without prior approval from the TU's dean's office . Due to the disregard of this authorization requirement, he was dismissed after the guest lecture by Otto Muehl during his lecture.

1970–1982 he organized the non-university evenings of the “OO - Open Office” in his studio in the 4th district , a discussion forum for students and professionals who went beyond the horizon of architecture. From 1973 to 1996, Günther Feuerstein was professor for interior design at the University of Artistic and Industrial Design in Linz .

From 1962 to 2000 Günther Feuerstein ran his "studio for design, planning, research". He lives and works in Vienna.
