The Güssinger Bahn is a former railway line in the border area between Austria and Hungary . It connected the city of Güssing , the capital of the district of the same name in southern Burgenland , with the Körmend station in Hungary , located in the Raab Valley on the main railway Steinamanger ( Szombathely ) - Fehring - Graz . The local railway was from the Körmend-Németújvári h.é. vasút was built and operated.

Even after the Güssing district of Hungary was incorporated into the Republic of Austria after the First World War and the railway was cut by the new border, the Hungarian State Railways continued to operate the Güssing local railway. As far as passenger traffic is concerned, the connections were limited to one pair of trains per day. There was no connection with the rail network on Austrian territory. After the end of the Second World War, it was shut down due to being sealed off by the Iron Curtain . Since then, there has been no rail traffic in the Güssing district. The extensive network of forest railways that served as a feeder to the railroad no longer exists either.

In 1962 the tracks were dismantled. As part of the new construction of Geschrittenstein Straße (B56), the old, mostly straight embankment between Güssing and Moschendorf was used for road construction. Remnants of the tracks still exist between Moschendorf and the state border near Strem .

Since then, the Güssing district has been the only political district in Austria without a rail link. The Strem station building has been preserved to date and is privately owned. The Güssing station building has been used as a private residence and doctor's practice since its extensive restoration. However, the locomotive shed in Güssing was demolished in the 1990s. Both in Güssing and Strem, Bahnhofstrasse is still reminiscent of the former railway.
