Piotr Gładki (born February 8, 1972 in Danzig ; † May 27, 2005 in Wyczechowo , Powiat Kartuski ) was a Polish long-distance runner .

Life

In 1987 he started his sporting career at the Gdańsk Sports Club Lechia Gdańsk. In 1997 he became the Polish master in the 3000 m hall , and in 1998 and 1999 he became the Polish master in the 5000 m .

In 2000 he set a Polish record in the half marathon as fourth in the City - Pier - City Loop with 1:01:35 h and won the Hamburg marathon in 2:11:05 h on his debut over the 42.195 km distance . He qualified for the marathon of the Olympic Games in Sydney , in which he did not reach the goal.

In 2002 he was eighth in the City - Pier - City Loop and fifth in the Hamburg Marathon and came 17th in the marathon of the European Athletics Championships in Munich . In 2004 he finished eighth in the Vienna City Marathon . His last great success was winning the Krakow Marathon on May 7, 2005.

On May 27, 2005, he was killed in a traffic accident in Kashubia when he got off the lane while driving to a competition while another driver was overtaking him.

Piotr Gładki was 1.80 m tall and weighed 61 kg. He began his sporting career at the Gdańsk sports club Lechia Gdańsk and in 2002 switched to the West Pomeranian club Sporting Międzyzdroje .
