Count Gabriel Franz Marenzi (born May 14, 1861 in Laibach (Ljubljana) ; † November 28, 1934 in Wels , full name Gabriel Franz Geremia Maria Aloysius, Count Marenzi von Tagliuno and Talgate, Margrave of Val Oliola, Baron von Marenzfeldt and Scheneck ) was kuk chamberlain and field marshal lieutenant .

Life

The son of Lieutenant Field Marshal Franz Anton Marenzi von Tagliuno and Talgate became lieutenant after graduating from the Theresian Military Academy in Wiener Neustadt , and in 1886 first lieutenant with the Nikolaus Grand Duke of Russia Hussars No. 2. As such, he fought a pistol duel on October 20, 1890 for a reason not mentioned with Rittmeister Wilhelm Rainer in Kronstadt (Brașov) . Marenzi was seriously injured after changing the ball twice. At his wedding he was kuk Rittmeister 2nd class in the Landwehr- Uhlan Regiment Stockerau. With the highest resolution of October 17, 1894, translated into the active status of the kk Landwehr with the division into the Landwehr Uhlanen Regiment No. 5, he advanced there on November 1 of that year to the rank of Rittmeister 1st class. In 1896 Marenzi completed the Landwehr staff officer course.

Around 1900 he was a major in the Landwehr Uhlan Regiment No. 1 and in 1903 in the Cavalry Regiment No. 26. In 1913, Gabriel was a colonel in command of the 4th kuk Landwehr Uhlan Regiment. On September 3, 1914, Marenzi was promoted to major general and commander of the Landwehr cavalry brigade in Wels. During the World War he commanded the 21st Cavalry Brigade, with which he distinguished himself particularly in the capture of Cholm in Russian Poland and in the heavy fighting around Lemberg . In 1916 he rode as commander of the 21st Cavalry Troop Division alongside Baron von Mackensen in the defeated Bucharest. Immediately afterwards he was appointed commander of the 7th Cavalry Division, where he was promoted to field marshal lieutenant on August 28, 1917.

Marenzi married on May 6, 1893 in Prugg Gabriele Theresia Caroline Maria Evarista (born October 26, 1859 in Prague , † June 28, 1942 in Wels ), daughter of Count Johann Nepomuk Franz von Harrach zu Rohrau and Thannhausen (1828-1909) and the Marie Markéta Princess of Lobkowicz (1837–1870). After the war the couple lived in Wels ( Upper Austria ). The marriage remained childless.
