Gabriel Rüsch

Gabriel Rüsch (born January 22, 1794 in Speicher ; † March 23, 1856 in St. Gallen ; resident in Speicher) was a Swiss doctor , publicist , and politician from the canton of Appenzell Ausserrhoden .

Life

Gabriel Rüsch was the son of Johann Ulrich Rüsch, mousseline manufacturer and councilor, and Anna Elisabeth Roth. His wife was Wilhelmina Stäbli, daughter of Samuel Stäbli, salt factor.

Rüsch attended the boys' school in the Pestalozzi Institute in Yverdon from 1805 to 1808 . From 1808 to 1809 he was at the Antoine Monastier Institute in Lausanne . From 1809 to 1812 he completed a commercial training with his father in Speicher. From 1812 to 1814 he then did additional training with a doctor in Frauenfeld . Rüsch studied medicine in Zurich , Tübingen and Würzburg from 1814 to 1817 . From 1817 to 1818 he did further training in Vienna and Halle . Rüesch acquired a doctorate in medicine in Würzburg in 1817 . From 1818 he ran a doctor's practice in Speicher. He took over the medical care of the poor house and orphanage as well as the outpatient poor practice. Rüsch was a member of the Ausserrhoder Sanitary Commission from 1821 to 1840 . From 1833 to 1840 he was a member of the canton school commission . He served as councilor in Speicher from 1834 to 1835. From 1834 to 1838 he was an auditor. From 1835 to 1838 he sat in the small council . Rüsch worked from 1834 to 1837 as editor of the Appenzeller Zeitung . He directed this increasingly towards his home canton of Appenzell Ausserrhoden. In 1840 he moved to St. Gallen. From 1847 to 1850 he worked as a spa doctor in Pfäfers . Rüsch published various works on balneology and regional studies . In 1820 he co-founded the first reading society in Ausserrhoden in Speicher, in 1823 the first cantonal building insurance company and in 1827 the Appenzell Medical Society. Rüesch founded an embroidery school in Valens around 1848 .
