Gabriel Sebastian Tamaş (born November 9, 1983 in Braşov , Braşov County ) is a Romanian football player . He has been playing for Astra Giurgiu since August 2019 .

Club career

The defender Tamaş began his career with the Romanian second division club FC Braşov . In 1998 he signed his first professional contract. In 2000 he moved to city rival Tractorul Brașov . In 2002 he made the jump to the Romanian top club Dinamo Bucharest . After just one season, he moved to the Turkish club Galatasaray Istanbul . In January 2004, Tamaş then moved to Spartak Moscow . For the two seasons 2004/05 and 2005/06 he was loaned to his former club Dinamo Bucharest and for the 2006/07 season to Celta Vigo . After relegation from Celta to the Segunda División , Tamaş moved in the summer of 2007 for a year in the French Ligue 1 to AJ Auxerre . In 2008 he returned to Dinamo Bucharest. In early 2010, Tamaş moved to the English Football League Championship at West Bromwich Albion , with whom he made promotion to the Premier League at the end of the season . After being without a club from October 2013 to January 2014, he signed a contract with English second division club Doncaster Rovers . In the summer of 2014 he joined league rivals Watford FC . He sustained an injury in September 2014 and was out for several months. In January 2015, he moved to Steaua Bucharest (from April 2017 FCSB Bucharest ). In August of the same year he signed a contract with Cardiff City . Half a year later, Tamaş moved back to Bucharest.

National team

In March 2003 he made his debut in the Romanian national team against Slovakia . By April 2010, he had 44 international matches in which he scored two goals. Tamaş was part of Romania's squad at the 2008 European Football Championship .
