Gabriel "Gabe" Vilardi (born August 16, 1999 in Kingston , Ontario ) is a Canadian ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Los Angeles Kings in the National Hockey League since March 2018 and at the same time for their farm team, the Ontario Reign , in the American Hockey League is used. In the 2017 NHL Entry Draft , the Kings selected him in eleventh position.

Career

Gabriel Vilardi was born in Kingston and played there in his youth for the Greater Kingston Frontenacs and in the 2014/15 season for the Voyageurs of the Canadian International Hockey Academy . In 2015, the center was selected in second place in the Priority Selection of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) by the Windsor Spitfires and was featured for the team at the start of the 2015/16 season. In his first season he came to 38 points scorer in 62 games and was selected as a result of the OHL's all-rookie team . In his second OHL year, Vilardi led the Spitfires in points (61) and won the Memorial Cup with them as host at the end of the season , with the Canadian being elected to the tournament's all-star team.

Vilardi was seen as a promising talent in the upcoming NHL Entry Draft 2017 , so the International Scouting Services led him to position three in their rankings, while the Central Scouting Services of the NHL placed him fourth among the North American outfield players. In the actual draft he was selected by the Los Angeles Kings in eleventh position.

In the off-season that followed, the attacker sustained a back injury, due to which he was out until the end of the year. On New Year's Day 2018, the Spitfires then gave him within the league, including Sean Day, to the Kingston Frontenacs and in return received Cody Morgan and eight draft voting rights. In addition, the Los Angeles Kings provided him with an entry-level contract in March 2018 . He then started the 2018/19 season with the Ontario Reign , the farm team of the Kings from the American Hockey League (AHL), but suffered another back injury, due to which he could only play four games in the 2018/19 season. Finally, the attacker made his debut for the Kings in the National Hockey League (NHL) in February 2020 .

International

With the selection of his home province Ontario, Vilardi won the gold medal at the Canada Games 2015. He then gained his first international experience at the World U-17 Hockey Challenge 2015 , where he also won the gold medal with Team Canada White .
