Gackenhof is a district of Poppenhausen (Wasserkuppe) in the eastern Hessian district of Fulda .

Gackenhof is located in the Rhön Biosphere Reserve south of Poppenhausen. State road 3330 runs through the village .

The village was first mentioned in 1680, when it still belonged to Weyher's office. Ecclesiastically it is assigned to Poppenhausen. The place name is interpreted as courtyard on a steep slope .

In addition to the Gackenhof, the district includes the hamlets of Neuwart, Kuppe, Rabennest, Neufeld, Steinbruch, Bienhof, Bollrain, Storchshof, Hettenpaulshof, Danielshof, Wiegerich, Huhnrain, Huhnmühle, Hugofluss and Unteraltenweiher.

On the 577 m high Gackenhöfer Küppel in the middle of the settlement, an 18 m high wind turbine with a wheel diameter of eight meters, which came from the Mark Brandenburg, was operated from 1922 . The turbine had an output of 27–30 hp and generated 110 volts direct current, which was used to charge 60 batteries. The wind turbine provided electricity for the hamlets in the area and for a water pumping station. In the late autumn of 1938 the system was switched off because the Fulda overland plant had taken over the power supply.

On August 1, 1972, as part of the regional reform in Hesse , Gackenhof was incorporated into the newly formed Poppenhausen community by virtue of state law.
