Steinwand is a district of Poppenhausen (Wasserkuppe) in the eastern Hessian district of Fulda .

Steinwand is located in the Rhön Biosphere Reserve north of Poppenhausen. The place consists of numerous farms and farmstead groups without a classic town center, namely Bildstein, Eichenhof, Eichenwinde, Erlenhof, Eselsbrunn, Feuerloch, Grabenhöfchen, Grashof, Hausfürst, Heckenmühle, Heiligenhof, Heimenhof, Hohensteg, Hugofluß, Hugograben, Kalkofen, Klübershof, Krämerstock, Maulhof, Mittelberg, Obereichenzüge, Öttersbach, Pfaffenhof, Pielhof, Rauschelbach, Remerz, Remerzhof, Reppich, Schöpfersbach, Steinhecken, Teufelstein, Untermittelberg, Ziegelhof and some mills. Before the regional reform, the place was considered the largest municipality in Hesse with a wide network of field and farm roads; Even today the stone wall is considered the largest scattered settlement in all of Hesse. State road 3330 runs through the village, federal road 458 lies in the south .

The village was first mentioned in a document in 1549.

On August 1, 1972, Steinwand was incorporated into the newly formed large community of Poppenhausen by virtue of state law as part of the regional reform in Hesse .

The name of the settlement and known nationwide is the rock formation of the same name made of phonolite for climbing . This is around 100 meters long and around 20 meters high and offers 95 climbing routes of various levels of difficulty. It is located on private land in a wooded area - but is open to the public.
