Abtsroda is a district of the large community of Poppenhausen (Wasserkuppe) in the eastern Hessian district of Fulda .
geography
Abtsroda is a small place that lies at an altitude of approx. 650–700 m between the Weiherberg in the north and the Wasserkuppe in the south. The place has around 363 inhabitants and an area of 10.79 km². To the west lie Sieblos , Tränkhof and Poppenhausen , east Seifert and Melperts . Dietges and Rupsroth are to the north and Obernhausen to the south.
history
The Tränkhof farm group was first mentioned in 1165 as "Trangoldes". Since the late Middle Ages , Abtsroda has belonged to the Fulda bishopric . In the Turkish tax register of the abbey of Fulda from the year 1605, the place is mentioned as "Appesrodt" with 27 families. In 1787 Abtsroda belonged to the Weyher office of the Fulda bishopric. In 1812 the church in Abtsroda was a daughter church of Poppenhausen .
The place with its districts Tränkhof and Sieblos came in the course of the regional reform in Hesse with other surrounding localities on August 1, 1972 by state law to the newly founded large community Poppenhausen.

On St. Joseph's Day, March 19, 1999, the foundation stone for the chapel was laid. On July 16, 2000 the new chapel was opened by the Fulda auxiliary bishop Dr. Ludwig Schick inaugurated.
Cultural monuments and sights
- Wayside shrine from 1623 at the entrance to Sieblos with the main motif of a crucifixion scene; Founder and sculptor Georg Weber.
- In the southern part of the municipality there is an abandoned mine , in the overburden of which fossils were found, see the Sieblos fossil deposit .
- Hessenpark
- A neighboring house from Sieblos has been rebuilt in the Hessenpark open-air museum in Neu-Anspach . It is a single-storey three - zone Ernhaus , also known as the elderly house , from the middle of the 19th century. It stood on the Grösch estate (No. 16) until 1987 and has been accessible again since 2010 in the Osthessen construction group.

The state road 3307 leads through Abtsroda , it joins the Hochrhönring immediately at the end of the village .
Public transport
Abtsroda is also served four to six times a day by the RMV bus line 35 (Fulda – Künzell – Poppenhausen – Abtsroda – Wasserkuppe).
Economic structure
Since 1924 there has been a larger company for the production of wooden pallets in the village . Due to winter sports tourism, the Abtsrodalift, a ski lift to the Wasserkuppe, is in operation when there is enough snow. There is also the Zum Hirsch mountain inn .
