history

The village was first mentioned in the Josephine land survey of 1717 as a Serbian-Wallachian village with the name Mali Gaj . The village had 30 houses and was part of the Ciacova district . The village is uninhabited on the Mercy map from 1723–1725.

From 1718 to 1778 the village was part of the Habsburg crown domain Temescher Banat . As a result of the Austro-Hungarian Compromise (1867), the Banat was annexed to the Kingdom of Hungary within the dual monarchy of Austria-Hungary .

The landlord, Count Nako, settled several families of Slovaks on his estate in 1782 . However, they left the village in 1806 to settle in other Slovak villages in the Banat, such as Butin or Clopodia .

The Treaty of Trianon on June 4, 1920 resulted in the Banat being divided into three parts, whereby Gaiu Mic fell to the Kingdom of Romania .
